BOO

BOO was born July 9, 1998 - one of five white boxers in a litter of eight. BOO was mistreated and neglected by the family who first had her. She did not answer to her name "Snowflake" so we renamed her "BOO" when we found her at six months of age and welcomed her into our home. She was not house broken, was malnourished, did not have any shots or medical care, and had no idea what puppy treats were.

(Years after we got BOO, her former owners sent us her registration papers. We then contacted the Oregon Breeder and learned about her ancestry.)

It took a lot of coaxing to get BOO to sit on the furniture and come into bet. We had a four year old bindle male boxer at the time, Jake. Jake helped BOO feel at home. Once she leared what treats were, she would "bury" them outside under the shrubs or inside under a chair of rug - saving them for a rainy day. Jake packed on quite a bit of weight by following behind and eating her stash!

BOO's walks around the house are quite and careful. We've not had to put anything our of reach until we got BOO a mix-breed puppy, Patch, to serve as her personal trainer when mama's arthritis kicked in and ended out long walks along the River's Edge Trail. She does not get up on her hind legs to reach anything or jump on anyone. Nor will she retrieve a toy or ball from a corner or beneath furniture. She prefers to come to papa and ask for human assistance. She utilizes meaningful looks/facial expressions to communicate. BOO is very gentle and a real sweetheart.

Although she is white, BOO's hearing and eye sight has been very good. The light mark in her right eye is a fourth generation trait, with her ancestors having "Magic In My Eye" as part of their registered names. BOO's full name is BOO Mation Magic Eye - due to this trait and the black pigment markings on her pink skin. BOO is currently treated for ulcers in her eyes by Dr. Grant Smith.

BOO has been a blessing and a wonderful addition to our family - our adult children do not live in/near Great Falls. She is quite tolerant of the two older folks with whom she shares her home.

Sumi & Bella

"My name is Sumi, I am the white one. The tan one is my partner in crime, Bella Sera, or Belle for short. We love to mix things up and keep it interesting. When we aren't making trouble, we are doing what we do best, NAPPING! (We need all the beauty sleep we can get!)

Did I mention all the special care we get at home and here at Skyline? We come in every month and have our nails done, then we go home where I lay under the air conditioner and Belle lays around the yard and works on her tan.

It's a rough life but we love it and wouldn't have it any other way. Oh, our outfits are custom made with love by Linda!"

Thanks, Sumi & Bella, from the Skyline staff for the submission of the article!

Waffles

"Hi, I am Waffles (also known as Waffy, or Waffy-doodle). I am a Border Collie/American Saffordshire terrier mix.

My Daddy found me through the Humane Society with help from my previous foster parents. When I was at the kennels with the other dogs, a lot of people said I was cute, but no one would adopt me. Dad says it was because I was a maniac and most people didn't quite know what to do with me. If fact, I was going to be euthanized! I don't know what that means, but I know it is a bad thing. Until my Dad taught me how to have good manners, I didn't realize that I was being a maniac. I feel a lot better now that I know when it is good to bark and that it is nicer to keep my paws off of you two-legged people.

Dad says I have a lot of 'drive,' but I don't know how to drive. I can't even reach the pedals! He says because of this, it is important to keep me busy. Now I have a job that keeps me busy; I am a tested and qualified therapy dog for the Enhanced Animal Therapy Program at Benifis West. I've found out I enjoy working even if it is tiring at times, and Dad always lets me play after I'm done working. Boy, do I like that!

Dad often takes me for walks and drives, and sometimes we spend the whole day together. We even go shopping together when we are able. When I get exited I like to say, 'Rooo, rooooo,' and then Dad will start laughing and give we 'scitches' on my tummy.

Thanks for taking care of me Dad, and letting me help people who are ill."

Boomer

Boomer Barnes was a faithful companion of 13 years. We went to the pound looking for a puppy that didn't bark or shed. We didn't see anything that met our needs and as we were leaving, the dog pound attendant stopped us and said, "Did you see the puppies way in the back cage?"

There he was with his brothers and sisters but he was the one under the dog feeder with his paws on top of his ears; he coudn't stand the noise either!

At that point we knew he was for us. He was a cute wrinkled sharpei/sheperd mix.

Boomer was about six months old when winter arrived. By this time he had mastered the art of opening the French doors that lead to the kitchen from the outside. One morning we were upstairs and felt a very cold draft. As we went downstairs we saw the doors wide open... Boomer had let himself in. My husband began to work with him and within 20 minuts he then mastered the art of closing the door. There are many dogs that can open doors, but very few that can close them, and at that point he became famous amoung our friends and family.

Boomer had also acquired a taste for beer with the help of the kids and their friends. One evening we had a gathering of friends on the deck, and you guessed it, if your beer was unattended he was partaking. He helped himself to our friend's beer and of course got in trouble and was sent in the house. As any angry child would react, he went into the house and SLAMMED the door.

Boomer also liked to play dress-up. He would sport his Harley Davidson leather cap, or boxer shorts worn backwards with a "wifebeater" t-shirt, or as you can see, he's wearing his Elvis or "I ain't nothing but a Hound Dog" mask.

We lost Boomer in January due to illness, but we have wonderful memories.

Phoebe

At the time this photograph was taken, Phoebe was 18 or 19 years old. Phoebe has since passed
away and she is greatly missed. She was an exotic persian who came to me after my sister died
in an automobile accident 10 years ago. Phoebe soon came to be my special companion who was
totally devoted to me. She was always on the lookout for me to jump up and curl up in my lap.
It was pure joy for me when I would make eye contact with her and she would see me and run
towards me with her eyes full of love and devotion. She really didn't have a delicate meow - I
called it a yell! My husband would always make me "multi-task" (meaning hold Phoebe and do
whatever else I was working on) whenever I was at home and moving around (if I was sitting,
Phoebe was always in my lap) because she would not stop yelling until I picked her up. She was
such a good little cat and never engaged in bad behavior. During this last year, she developed
kidney failure and had to have fluid therapy several times a week. I actually travel back and forth
between Missoula and Great Falls every week, so Phoebe had to travel with me. She turned out
to be a great driving companion as well. She',vould sit on rny lap during the Crive and move
back and forth putting her feet on the armrests on the doors to look out the window at the
scenery. That must have been quite a sight for people as we passed by. When I would stop for a
break, she would sit on the armrest in the middle of the front seat in order to see me as soon as I
came out - what a loss it has been to not see her loving little face and feel her loving
companionship. I give my heartfelt thanks and appreciation to Skyline Veterinary Clinic for your
kindness and care in administering Phoebe's fluid therapy. You helped me to be blessed to have
my precious Phoebe with me a while longer than I would have without the therapy.

Cassidy

Cassidy is a very good and playful Bassett Hound. She loves people that she knows, but when walking in the park, she runs to me (Sandy, sister of Janet)
When certain people come to Janet’s house, her butt is swinging like crazy, she is so happy to see someone!
She is a very lovable dog, who happens to snore very loudly when she sleeps. She also likes to throw her treats up in the air, and play with her toys. She’s a sweetheart dog, who in return is loved by everyone

Slappy

Hi,
I am Slappy. I like to follow fingers through my glass window. Bob, my best buddy, cleans my tank and feeds me yummy turtle food. Sometimes, when he gets sushi, I get a real treat: FRESH SALMONON!
I like to tread water in place, and see how long I can hold my breathe. At other times I like to poke my head out of the water and stare at my buddy. I got my name because I... well, I like to slap a lot and make lots of noise. I have been doing this for the past 8 years and will continue to do so for the next 32 years because Bob takes good care of me.

I first came across Bob when we were in college. I was currently residing with a young female college student who acquired me from a pet store. She didn’t know what to do with me and wanted me in better hands. That’s when I met my buddy, Bob. He took me in and we have been best friends ever since.
First, he took me from the wonderful state of Montana to pursue his college degree in Minnesota. It was a long arduous drive, traveling in a bucket in a U-haul truck, but we managed to survive. I felt quite constricted! But I was happy to find my new home in a 20 gallon tank.

Bob and I have been through quite a bit, and I am glad to have such a great consistent and loyal friend as my buddy Bob.

Thanks Skyline Veterinary Clinic for giving me my moment to share my story!

- Slappy

Mitzi

Our August 2007 Pet of the Month is Mitzi Rosanbalm!
Mitzi is a 6 year old Poodle, Chi-Terrier Mix, who loves to jump in her chair and watch the traffic go by.
She loves people and is not afraid of anyone. She loves to cuddle and sit next to either one of us, and when it’s cold outside, she particularly loves to lie near the floor heat vent!

When it is nice out, she loves to go for walks, and she always seems to do something funny to make us laugh. She is “Our Baby”

Thank you Will and Esther Rosanbalm for submitting Mitzi for Pet of the Month!

Jet

Jet is a 13 year-old English Cocker Spaniel. Her owner, Kitty, grew up with English Cockers in the family and found them to be great family dogs. It was one of Kitty’s dreams to find a black female English Cocker as a companion when she moved to Montana in 1994. Jet was found in Minnesota and flown to Montana under the seat of a jet plane-hence the origin of her name.

When Jet was 11 months old, she jumped into the Judith River after her favorite red ball and was caught in the freezing waters of the river. Kitty jumped in and saved her-but nearly drowned and had to be rescued in turn. Jet loves people, but especially children. Excursions to the country are a favorite thing for her. She loves to run free and let her natural hunting instincts lead her along the scent of birds.

At the age of 4, Jet had her one litter of puppies. Two of them remained with Kitty and her now husband Peyton: Snip and Speckles. In 2000, all three were trained to heal tandem down the wedding aisle carrying silver baskets holding wedding rings in their mouths. They were the featured attendants at Kitty and Peyton’s wedding.

Jet certainly personifies the personality trait of her breeed- “they are meant to be merry”.
In the past few years, Jet has suffered from kidney failure. Her spirits continue to keep her going through all her treatments at Skyline Vet “Spa”, where she has received splendid care over the years.
Jet’s birthday was June 6th. Truly she is one of those very special “once in a lifetime dogs”.

Kitty Wright and Peyton Huffman (Jet’s people)

Thanks Kitty and Peyton, from all of us at Skyline Vet Clinic!

Buddy Mitchell

I love living in Montana with Grandpa and Grandma Mitchell. I was born in Boise Idaho, where Janet Mitchell adopted me almost 6 years ago, when I was just a little kitten. I was lost and looking for a home. I was out with my mama, sisters, and brothers and I ran ahead to check out something I was curious about. By the time I had looked into everything, my family had disappeared. My mama always said my curiosity would be a problem for me, but I would learn to be a survivor. She was right. I wasn't on my own two months before I lost half of my tail! After that accident, I learned to be a little more careful. Though she wasn't a "cat", Janet was a wonderful mama to me. When she decided to go back to school, I was scared as to what would happen to me. She wanted a good home for me while she was gone, so I came to live with Grandpa and Grandma!

I am living the good life! Grandpa Bob and Grandma Joyce are home just about all the time, and they tend to all my needs. I wake them in the morning so we can have the whole day together; and because they need exercise, I try to think of things that will keep them busy with me and also be good for their muscles. I know they wouldn't be able to get along without me because I also give them lots of love and attention. Sometime I even think I am a person because we communicate too well!!!

Thanks Buddy, from all of us at Skyline Vet Clinic!

Katie

HI!

I’m Katie Rimkus and I am a 5 year old Lab? mix. I love to chase basketballs around the backyard. My favorite toy is an ice cream bucket. I don’t like the vacuum cleaner or the lawn mower, and I really dislike the weed eater.

Thanks Katie! Happy Thanksgiving!
