PET OF THE MONTH
January 2005

Our Pet of the Month for January is Brandy who is owned by Betty. As Betty writes, "Brandy is a happy, healthy dog, thanks in part to the Skyline Vets and staff, but also because of the great love we have for each other. Brandy has his own fenced in yard and gets daily walks, as do half a dozen other dogs in the neighborhood. The power pole on the street opposite my house is their "Email" center.
Happy New Year Brandy and Betty

Our February Sweetheart

In 1961, a shepherd, William, spied a white cat playing in a farmyard near a small Scottish town. William Ross noticed that this cat's ears were permanently folded forward and downward. The people who owned this cat were unable to provide any details of its origin. Her name was Susie and all Scottish folds are descendents of this white barnyard cat.

Gus, is a "classic" folded 2-year-old Scottish Fold cat. His proud owner is Sue Boid. The breed is sweet-tempered, placid and calm. He is so gentle and soft he makes you want to pet him non-stop. He is always aware of what is going on, usually hiding around the corner, or spying from a secret hiding place. He unconsciously sits up in a "Buddha" style position, sometimes for hours.

His days are spent being chased, by his buddy, Stewart, a. Scottish terrier. Occasionally, Gus decides to be the "chaser" and hides in the curtains, and jumps out and scares Stewart half to death. . He "sits up" for a kitty treat, and thinks ice water is a delicacy, so he appears out of no-where anytime the ice dispenser runs. Gus is a unique little guy, with a sweet disposition, and unpredictable antics.

PET OF THE MONTH
March 2005

Our March Pets of the month are Rebel Yell VIII and Lucky Boy, who live with Angi and Mike.

Rebel is a 7-year-old teacup poodle, who was jet black as a baby, but is now silver streaked. He is a barrel chested boy, very intelligent, who thinks, "tricks are for kids", and very rarely performs on command! He is a sweetie, and very puppy like at times.

His companion is 9 year-old Lucky Boy, who was saved from a breeder when he was 3 years old. He had scars on his body and had only 5 teeth due to mistreatment.

He is very small, and a bit spooky, but acts like a big dog when it comes to guarding his home! Even with his traumatic childhood, he is a loving little dog, who would be content to be held all day long.

What a DYNAMIC DUO for our March Pets of the Month

April Pet of the Month

It's the Easter Bunny!!!
No, it's our adorable April Pet of the Month!

Skipper, a 2-½ year old terrier mix, who belongs to Terry. His is a happy, sweet natured companion who pays attention to all conversation around him, seeming to understand everything said. His favorite place to be is with Terry, in his lap, going for a ride or better yet, cuddled in his arm for a nap.
He became the "big brother" to two 3-month-old Golden Retrievers a year ago, and although they now tower over him, he doesn't seem to notice. Able to hold his own, he will race, tackle and wrestle Buddy and Little Red until he gets his own way (or toy back).

Skipper is also the top retriever of balls and loves to make his toys squeak-and squeak- and squeak!!!! His cutest tricks: sitting up gopher style or standing on his hind legs for minutes at a time, so he can be taller to see out better, and stretching to reach people's faces to give them a quick lick on their chin or nose.
His special gift was apparent when his friend, Grandpa Eddie, spent several months in a hospital, nursing home, and hospice. Skipper met and comforted so many patients reaching out for him or asking to have him visit by cuddling on their laps, snuggling beside them in bed, and reaching to give them his gentle lick on their chin or nose.

He gave smiles to many sick, lonely, or suffering people, young and old alike. He is a true sweetheart.

May Pet of the Month

Our May Pet of the Month just happens to be a Skyline Special, who has found a permanent home, caretaking a shop on a farm.

Brat Kat, as she was fondly called at the clinic, has embraced her new home with great enthusiasm. She not only enforces a "no mouse in the house" policy, but is continually papering the shop bathroom with as much Charmin as she can get her paws on. Each night, she places her stuffed toys in the bucket of the tractor, and systematically shreds parts lists and to do notes that are left on the workbench.

Even though Dr. Smith says she has limited vision in her right eye, she has no trouble at all keeping the shop mouse free. Hopefully springtime will keep her busy outdoors and out of trouble. She is a welcome addition to the shop, and keeps everyone entertained!

June Pet of the Month

Hi, my name is Rascal. I am a mixed breed of sweet and adorable.

I was adopted on July 4th, 1995. I was homeless and running scared. My owner, Becky, took me in and gave me the best of everything!

I am an easy going, very happy and content dog, which you can see since my tail is going non-stop.
My favorite things to do are: #1 Go for car rides; I love to wedge between the two front seats and watch out the window. #2 Chase squirrels in my back yard. It is always fun and very adventurous.

I also spend a lot of time at my grand parents, especially when Becky is at work. They have a Boston terrier named Katie, who I love to play with. However, sometimes she just won't let me nap. I thank God for my wonderful life. It is a blessing.

Pet of the Month

Yeti is a Maine Coon, born on the 4th of July 2004, that came to our house as a Christmas present in Dec. of 2004.

She immediately began her training of us and has provided us with countless reasons to celebrate.

She is the clown of the house with her antics and activities. Yeti retrieves anything made of paper, and is learning to skate on the hardwood floors. Her favorite toy is a mink pelt left over from a mink stole. She comes when she is called, likes ice cubes dropped from the icemaker, and owns the bed we used to call ours. She also welcomes everyone who rings the doorbell, and loves all visitors.

Right now, at 9 months old, Yeti weighs almost 10 pounds and is over 34" long from the tip of her nose to the tip of her tail. When fully grown at 4-5 years, she should be around 20 to 25 pounds, and stretch to over 45".

No counter top will be safe from her curiosity!

Yeti is also very good at helping out in my studio, frequently testing the colors on my palette with her paws, and taste testing the ends of the sable brushes.

When bored, she will watch the television with intent, almost like she knows what is going on. She also helps out in the sewing room, flattening every pattern laid out, and providing wrinkle textures to all material just ironed.

For folks who didn't really know if they wanted another pet or not, Yeti has proven to be the best addition to our life with her comic routines and pleasing dispositions.

PET OF THE MONTH
August 2005

Never would I have guessed the "gift" a skinny, temperamental feral cat would produce for me that rainy morning in May 2002. As I studied her and wondered how she could possible be pregnant and expecting soon.

My girlfriend didn't think the out buildings and ancient cottonwoods on the towns edge were a suitable place for kittens to be born, so with great protest from said cat, she was placed in a temporary feline maternity ward in an unused room in my girlfriend's house. The human occupants agreed to put up with her ungrateful demeanor and sass until she gave birth and the litter was weaned and then she would be spayed, given shots and returned to her origins.

Everyone was anxious to see what kind of offspring she would have and how many there would be. As the date of delivery neared, I still believed

she would probably have one or two, three at the most. On an early spring morning, she gave birth to five kittens and mothered remarkable well.

They were healthy and rambunctious and I marveled at their antics and agility. I was fascinated by their varied looks and personalities. There were three females, two that were calico, and one Siamese type and two males, as different from each other as Cain and Abel. One brother was robust and handsome, the other a blonde-orange tabby like his mother

He was not so appealing, his nose and ears seemed large for his head, his neck long and thin and he clumsy and needy.

All noticed his sweet and affectionate nature, but it didn't endear him to those waiting to adopt. Two of the females went to GOOD HOMES immediately. The calico was chosen by my girlfriends' daughter to stay.

It wasn't long and the favorite male "Scotty" had a new home.

The fate of the insecure, goofy looking other male was unsure. He didn't even have a name, so I picked one that might encourage him. I called him "Ivan the Terrible", Ivan for short.

Weeks passed, and we still unsure as to what to do with Ivan. My girlfriends home could not house another pet, and although I had my own home, I already had a Manx cat and a dog.

Reluctantly I allowed Ivan to sit on my lap while visiting my girlfriend. He would often nap while I read, and preferred that I carry him like a human infant if I were to walk anywhere. Then came the day in early summer. I was saying goodbye to the children and my girlfriends' daughter yelled to me, "You forgot someone"! She carried Ivan to me and I thought, why not?

Since then, this puny kitten has matured into a specimen of a grown cat, with Hollywood good looks and beautiful muscularity and sleekness. He also is incredibly loving with a calming essence, making him a complete joy and gift in my life. Its strange, but it's as though he's always been with me. It's amazing and wonderful how loving spirits manifest in our lives, even from the likes of a sassy, pregnant road cat.

PET OF THE MONTH
September 2005

Hi, I am Gabriel, the September Pet of the Month. I'm a 5-year-old Sun Conure. I have a life span of 30- 35 years. I know 25 words and can also squawk or scream from time to time.I like to play in or around my cage and I love to chew.
I love breakfast time at our house. I will sip Dr. Pepper with my Dad and enjoy a piece of toast. If he forgets, a few loud squawks tend to remind him. I can be quite demanding!
In the evening, I rest with my Mom Pat while she watches TV. Animal Planet is my favorite show. Then its time for bed at 9pm for an 8 -10 hour sleep. In the winter, I usually sleep 10 to 12 hours. My favorite foods include: Mom's mashed potatoes, steak, apples and generally anything I want. I really like my baths. Every couple days, Mom takes me in the shower for a hosing down. I also like to cruise around in the SUV with my sister Brie (an 18 mo. old yellow Lab.)

PET OF THE MONTH
November 2005

My name is Bridger Morrison. I am an AKC Cocker Spaniel. I was born on February 8, 2004. On March 21st, 2004 I was adopted by my family Shawn, Lori, Kelsey, Amanda and Tyler Morrison.

As I grew up and was being taught to go potty outside, sit, shake, stay and come. I took a real fondness in fetching anything that moved. I LOVE chasing rocks, leaves or balls. I have taught myself to bring what I fetch back to whomever will throw the item. If it is a rock I am chasing, I will go and find the same rock. I lick the rock first and then I will drop it for my thrower. That way I can smell the rock and find it quickly.

From my picture you can see that I love to swim and fetch in water also. My Mommy will put my life jacket on me while I am swimming and fetching. I was a little nervous at first when she put it on me but I have grown to like it. Earlier this summer I had a very severe head trauma with a baseball bat. I wanted to fetch the ball the pitcher was pitching but got hit in the head instead with the bat. Since my head trauma, my Mommy is even more cautious of me liking the water. My Doctor says that I could have a seizure at anytime and I would hate to drown. I never argue about putting on my life jacket.

I live a great life and sleep in between my Mom and Dad on their bed. As soon as my Daddy gets up in the mornings I take over his pillow and lay like he does in the bed. I love rides in the truck and go everywhere with my family.

I am a spoiled rotten dog but love ALL the attention I get every day. The kisses are the best !!!!

PET OF THE MONTH
December 2005

Our December Pet of the Month is a first for our website. This beautiful rat is Blossom, who belongs to Tanner.

"Blossom is very playful and she loves to sleep and be held. She loves to chase me and jump into my arms when I open the cage. I love Blossom's beady little eyes and her pink little feet. I also love the way the fur on the top of her head stands up when she wakes up in the morning.

Blossom is a very unique and special rat to me. Every rat is different and has a different personality. Blossom has a very special and unique personality. She likes to explore, but also likes to be rubbed down and petted.

She also loves to eat!

She is my best friend. She recently had a tumor removed and is now recovering.

I love my rat, my best friend Blossom.
