Droopsy Moore Droopsy earned the honor of being the Pet of the Month thanks to her
hard work and dedication taking care of 6 abandoned kittens. These wonderful
kittens were abandoned in a paper sack at the Senior Citizens Center.
Our own Maria Moore took them home, and she and her dog Droopsy, raised
them until they were old enough to adopt. Droopsy played a very intregal
part in the rearing, as a he cleaned the kittens daily and was in charge
of raising them, leaving the nuturing to Maria!! Brian, Maria, and Richard
Moore are the proud owners of Droopsy. |

CoCo!!
Not the chocolate and marshmellow kind, but the German Shorthair kind! Our February Pet of the Month is a 12 year old registered German Shorthair owned by Tom Van Tighem and Janelle Justice. Cocos main goal in life is to chase a squirrell or rabbit. Mostly he just sits around watching them, as he really wouldnt know what to do with one if he caught them. Other favorite pastimes include eating, sleeping, and playing with his other dog friends. Theres nothing like riding in the truck with Dad, or going on their nightly walks. He has three horse friends that he sees every morning at feeding time. If there is a spot of sunshine in the house, hell be laying in it, and when no one is home, hell most likely be found in one of his favorite spots, the couch! One strange thing he does is to bury ANY bone, whether there is meat on it or not. His favorites are ham and prime rib from Borries! Coco is a very well mannered, lovable, and faithful dog. He enjoys going to his cabin in Monarch and wading in the creek on a hot day.

Max Charlson Max Charlson is a happy cat. He is the only cat I know
that purrs constantly. He will purr through a physical exam at Skyline
and doesn't even stop when you check his sore toes. The other day, he
was purring and "kneading" with his front feet while they were trying
to bandage one of those feet. His idea of a great afternoon is to sleep
in someone's lap the whole time, or maybe to curl up in his favorite
sunny or shady spot for a nap. He always wakes up in time for the next
meal, though. He has to share meals with Tansy, Tiffany, Skeeter, B.
W., and Flit, Max is good friends with two dogs, Biff and Dillon, and
tolerates a third one, Joe. All other dogs are considered evil. If Max
has any faults (other than laziness and greed) it would be that he is
too trusting. He is not above crawling into a stranger's car to go for
a ride. He even would have checked out the Schwan man's truck if he
hadn't gotten caught. (He's not very sneaky). |

Marlene the Mule Marlene is Steve and Evelyne Miller's one
in a million 22-year young molly mule. She is very gentle and has taught
them what "stubborn as a mule" really means and how nice a mule can
be. Marlene is very vocal, every time they step out the door or come
home, she will bray for them. She is very smart and can communicate
what she wants or doesn't want easily. She definitely has lots of personality!
She has seen a lot in her 22 years and has the attitude and confidence
to show for it, which is why they like to call her "Marlene, the beauty".
There is never a dull moment with Marlene around. She will take care
of the youngest rider or will challenge the most experienced rider.
Occasionally, Marlene has to wear special boots to keep her feet dry
and give her extra support. She is proof that mules can founder. Marlene
needs a little extra special care, but she is a little extra special

Buck Bolland This handsome guy came into the lives of
Mary and Dick Bolland on November 6, 1997. He was one of three dogs
that had been left on the doorstep of the Humane Society. Buck is a
shephard/lab mix, who weighs in at an amazing 101lbs. 7 oz., and just
full of love!!! With the help of Dr. Seekins and staff, Buck was diagnosed
in the early months of his life with a pancreatic enzyme imbalance,
but as you can see, he is now a happy and healthy dog.

Our July Pet is Jock Riphenburg, a beautiful black, brindle Scottie! Jock was born on July 16, 2001 in Big Timber Montana at the Highland Kennels. He joined the Riphenburg household on October 6 of that same year. With a personality all his own, he is full
of energy and constantly on the go until he goes down at night. He generally
tucks himself in by 10:00 PM. He is even been known to go to bed all
by himself. Jock is always ready for a game of tag or chase with the great grandkids all over the yard. He even tries his hand at gardening; oh, the poor petunias! Always one to entertain, he will occasionally ride the top of a basketball with his front paws. What a sight it is to see him pushing the basketball all around the house; going faster than his little legs can keep up! Jock is such a lovable and adoring companion. He has filled a very big space in Florence Riphenburgs' life after the recent death of another Scottie, 7 year old "Jake" from cancer, and then the passing of "J.J." at 7 weeks. No wonder this Scottie is loved by everyone, and has so many friends! |

Our August Pets of the Month are Teddy Bear and Panda Bear Konkol. They are pictured here with their friend Caleb Konkol."My guinea pigs are 3 years old; their birthday is July 4th. Teddy was named Teddy because we thought she looked like a teddy bear. Panda is a little stinker. We named her Panda because she looks like a panda bear with the patches on her eyes. Panda Bears' nickname is just Panda. Teddy Bears' nickname is just Teddy. Teddy is brown and white, while Panda is black and white" Thank you Caleb for submitting such GREAT Pets of the Month ! |

Monte
Monte, a one-year-old Ball Python is quite a guy. He is very docile
and has a calm personality. He loves children and anybody who would
like to hold him! He lives in a large aquarium with a temperature of
75-80 degrees. He sheds his skin about once every 1½ months;
this is a growth stage. He eats baby rats and is fed only once a month.
He will grow to be about 5 feet long and 6-8 inches around. His favorite
place to be is around your wrist, like Katie Smith is demonstrating
in this picture!! |

Indiana
Jones - "Indy"
This sweet, feisty little female kitten was born about June 15 in Indiana and brought to me, Margaret Gangner by my daughter-in-law, Heather Jones and my grandson Morgan when she was only 6 weeks old. You can understand how she happens to have her name. She is truly an adventuresome kitten and thinks that she can do anything. At the age of 3 months, she successfully snuck out my backdoor when I left for a meeting, and I never realized she was outside until I arrived home! The neighbor's dog unfortunately mistook Indy for a rabbit, and inflicted some painful injuries. It was necessary for Indy to spend a few days being cared for by the wonderful staff at Skyline Veterinary Clinic. They kept me informed as to her progress and allowed me to visit her. I am so thankful that she is much improved and it looks as though she
will make a full recovery. We will see if that affects her adventuresome
spirit, but I rather doubt that it will! |

SHADE We Salute Pam and Jerry for rescuing "Shade"
and giving this dog a second chance for a good life!
The shelter in Bozeman gave them the name of Myni Ferguson in Whitefish, who ran a Doberman rescue! They called and sure enough, Myni know of a 5 month old female that had just been returned to her original owner for the second time. So off Jerry and Pam went to Kalispell, just to "take a look". When they saw her, they knew she would be coming home to Chinook! She was typical Doberman pup, a real challenge. Obedience classes were definitely in order, and even with them, the first two years were not without incidence. She was at the vet on nearly a monthly basis for some sort of laceration! She and barbed wire seemed to have some sort of attraction. Then there was the chair of the porch that lost its arm, and all kinds of scavenger trips into the fields for old bones, deer hides, and run-ins with various skunks. Life was indeed interesting! At about 3 years of age,
she began to settle down and just chase farm cats for recreation. |
