PET OF THE MONTH~January 2001

Pet of the Month - January 2001

Petey

Our January Pet of the Month is Petey Sainsbury, a 14 year old Schnauzer.

Even though Petey has just one eye, he just loves to socialize with everyone, and always has lots of kisses to pass around.

At home, he has his favorite doormat out when you come in which says, "The Dog and his servants live here!" What a great companion!

Happy New Year Petey!!!!.

PET OF THE MONTH~February 2001

Pet of the Month - February 2001

Gizmo likes staying on top of things-all things.

Gizmo

My humans Mike and Jan Fager live on five acres with a menagerie of three horses, one Skeeter (German Shorthair pointer) and two 16-year-old cats.

They needed weed control in the pasture, so they got mom Louise and Aunt Thelma. Five days after they'd been settled into their new home, I showed up. BOY, did I really SURPRISE them!

I'm Gizmo because they say I resemble the gremlin with that name in the movie "Gremlins." They also say my personality is similar to movie Gizmo gremlin cuz' I get into some mischief- NOT ME!

Rowdy

We are pleased our March Pet of the Month is also our first equine pet! It's getting to be that time of the year, when many of these precious babies will be hitting the ground.

This is Rowdy, who was born 1 1/2 months premature, due to an injury to his mother. To top that off, she also had no milk. So he did what any enterprising young colt would do. He made do with warm milk from his friend Scooters' dog dish!

Scooter was also a great therapist, teaching him how to run and skip around the corral. Rolling in the straw was also a favorite past time. What a survivor and truly inspirational foal!

Scrappy

Hello, my name is Scrappy. I am a one year old and I'm a Terrior mix. I am black and white. I was adopted from the Humane Society on November 7, 2000. At first I was listed as a stray, but when my new family the Burback's came to get me, my previous family was at the Humane Society filling out paperwork saying they just didn't want me anymore.(That was sure a mistake!) This was their loss; it was my new family's gain and mine. My new family says that what really attracted them to me were my size, color, how HIGH I could jump, and my cute face. Of course, anyone who has met me would agree.

PEACHY

This picture is of "Peachy" our love bird, who is convalescing from his broken leg and his friend"Bird" cheering him up. Peachy is a very tenacious, mischievous, and somewhat of a clown and very in love with himself.

Peachy was purchased 14 years ago as a hand fed baby for daughter Christine's 15th birthday. Chris grew up, left home and got married. Peach was left at home with his life long companion "Ozzie" (also a love bird). Ozzie passed away last year and Peach decided he needed others in his life. Since Peachy shares a sewing room with a parakeet, a cockatiel and Barbary dove; he didn't have too far to look. Peachy continually escapes from his cage, enters their cages and literally torments his roommates by pecking at their feet, trying to them mouth to mouth and just about anything that will get him noticed.

Christmas day 2000, Peachy broke his tibia in his right leg. Dr. Kirk Seekins was able to put in a pin (hypodermic needle) and set the bone together. Peachy spent a week with all the wonderful, caring people at Skyline Veterinary Clinic. Happily he has overcome and is back to his old self.

Brutus
Pet of the Month - July 2001

Our July Pet of the Month is a one ton cupcake named "Brutus" Maximus, a purebred Angus bull.
He's pictured here with his pal, Kelsey, whom he has known since the day he was born. They are
the best of friends!

Brutus is always on his best behavior with Kelsey, because he knows he'll always receive some cake or get his back scratched when he's good.
He's a little on the big side to be a playmate, but he's always willing to give it a try!

PET OF THE MONTH~August 2001

MAX & MURPHY
Pet of the Month - August 2001

Max & Murphy are brother and sister. They are 8 years old and indoor cats that only go out if carried and put in their big dog cage or on a leash. Both are very vocal when they want attention. They also sit up for treats. Max, AKA Mr. Max, is so named because of his unique physique (approx. 40" long and weighs around 38 Ibs.) Max likes to play with and sleep on shoes & slippers. He lets you know when he is unhappy, mad or doesn't like you by hissing or giving out a spine tingling growl! Don't let his size fool you he's actually a lover and a great big scaredy-cat.

Murphy, AKA Mikie, as she is sometimes referred to because she will eat anything once or at least begs for everything. She lets you know when you forget to give treats when you come or leave the house by meowing with a demanding tone. She likes to open cupboard doors and drawers, always the little adventurer scouting out goodies for her brother and herself. She is a lover only on her terms, and unlike her brother she only weighs approx. 16 Ibs. THEY OWN A VERY NICE HOUSE AND ALLOW US TO LIVE THERE WITH THEM.

PET OF THE MONTH~September 2001

Faith
Pet of the Month - September 2001

Our inspirational Pet for September is "Faith."

If faith gives the soul wings, "Faith" gives Cheryle Schaff legs. Cheryl, from Wright Wyo., was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 1986, and has been in a wheelchair since 1997. She is by no means bound to it! She started riding Faith that same year, when the mare was just a two-year old. Cheryle and her husband Don bought the mare when she was just 10 months old. By the time Faith was ready to ride, Cheryle had decided to try hippotherapy, to ease the rigidity in her legs.

Unable to walk, she designed a lift that could hoist her above her mount, then gently sit her down astride the horse. Don perfected it, using a winch and a soft cinch as the seat. As Don worked on the lift, he convinced his wife that Faith was the horse who would work best with it. Sure enough, as Cheryle hovered above her, Faith acted like she had done it a million times As Cheryle was strapped into her custom saddle, fashioned by Don from parts of a computer chair and seat belt, Faith seemed to know what was expected of her.

Cheryle and the now 5 yr. old take frequent rides with family members, enjoying their continued partnership. "She understands me," Cheryle says of Faith. "She has truly given me a sense of freedom. She has been my legs and taken me places I wouldn't otherwise have been able to go."

PET OF THE MONTH~October 2001

The Miracle Dog of Lake Minnetonka

Super Pet October 2001

Andy Stacke is a 13 1/2 year old Sheltie who raised two children to be kind and loving to animals. Andy was adopted when he was 6 months old as an abandoned puppy. He knew he was being rescued and has loved his life and family dearly. He has experienced many adventures. He had his leg broken by a rough neighbor; let out of the house by a worker and lost for 3 nights; won a fight against Cushings disease; cancer; arthritis and a variety of other ailments! He continues to ride around in a red Flyer wagon, and has a small bell which is kept by his front paws so he can ring it for assistance! He has different beds all over the house, so he is never very far from comfort. His blood pressure is also checked regularly by the University of Minnesota. This amazing little dog has never lost his spirit, and to top off all his accomplishments, he has discovered music and is now the featured singer with the band Seekin' Dixie!!!

PET OF THE MONTH~November 2001

NOVEMBER BATHING BEAUTY!!!!

Super Pet November 2001

This "bathtub beauty" is Sophie Takenaka, (aka Soph or Soh-Moh), a 10 year old Newfoundland/Wolfhound Mix. Soph was born in Great Falls, but was the last of her litter to find a home. We think they saved the best for last! She likes cheese with basted milkbones and a nice foot rub to relax. Besides her family, her favorite humans are spray pilot Mark and tandum truck driver Sarah. She prefers the dog-designated loveseat or bathtub for naptimes. She lives with 9 furry partners-in-crime, as well as 4 humans. Since her worst fears are "bunnyweenas" and "deerbears", we think her bark is worse than her bite.

PET OF THE MONTH~December 2001

Super Pet December 2001
This not so merry fellow is actually a gelding named Wacky Packy, whose was named such because as a foal he would chase and bite everyone like a not so little pac-man ball! Packy is a sorrel Quarterhorse who was bred, born and raised near Carter, Mt. His favorite pastimes are eating hay in the morning, grazing in the pasture through the day, then back to the barn at night for more hay! What a life! He actually spends a lot of time playing with his little brother Cody, and still likes to chase things out of the corral, especially the barn cats!

Merry Christmas!
